went for voting today..
being of age and a holder of voter's id, its my moral duty to caste my vote...
being aware of the candidates from my ward... my biased opinion left me vth only one choice of candidate...all maharashtrians of my area must have done the same...
evn though i casted my vote vth the biased judgement, this time I let the "jimmedar naagrik of bhratwarsh bhawna" propel the engines of vote casting process.
I went thru news papers n did some base search of the candidates but at the 11th hour i forgot all the credits as well as debits goin in to the accounts of the candidates and my efforts to be a jimmedaaar naagrik went in to vain, and I ended up vth the same biased thng.
I forgot to take my voter's id this time , so I have to present some other id as a proof of an autorised voter.. the other optional id cards were a passport, or a pancard or a driving license.. I was a holder of two among these, but even after showing the two of them I was asked to put my thumb impression against my signatures!!!! thumb impression for authenticating the signature of an income tax payee ,driving license holder civilian!!!!
no issues!!! u have to testify ur signatures vth ur thumb impression as I was told by the official there and I did the same....
Its a holiday for civilians today so tht they can caste their votes properly.Though its a loss of 8 man hours for a whole day for a population of more than 21 lacs(just for my city, not accounting for other cities and states).
Last time it was 67.37% voting.. It takes a max of 1.5 hours to caste ur vote and u get a full day off for the same!!
cool na???
some of my friends went for picnic... some accquaintances took friday off, and went for outing for 4 days...who gets a full paid leave to caste a vote often??? once in 4-5 years?? so they utilised it tht way,,, some were at home.. on account of lithargy and the hide-seek game of solar god...it was cold out, so they prefered to be at home rather thn standing in a queue and wait for their turn to caste the vote.
But there u can see the passion to vote among the senior citizen, they have got the feeling tht their voting ofcourse can create the difference..the first time voters who turned out 18 the last yr...it was like a cermony for thm, a pride feeling, I felt .. the other voters were used to the process, u com .. stand in the queue, wait for ur turn... get ur nail painted with the ink and push the electronic button and get out of it!!! thts it!!!
For some it was more of a social event, u gather together, discuss wats goin on...see wats up in the colony, in ur society, in ur ward.... for ladies more sort of gossips... its wedding season .. so u can see those engaged talking abt the D day with the shopping and all discussions... their parents dscussing the expenses and optimising them,, those singles looking for options, their parents looking and discussing for alliances..I saw some of my newly married friends also got a reason to com to their maternal homes i.e for voting :P
I dunno whos gonna win from my ward.. infact I hardly care...I wud have cared a bit of it, if a single participant was worthy enugh of my voting... rather than jus giving myself a chance to vote for the shortlisted candidates,I shud get a chance to select who have a fare chance of getting ticket,,, it turns out just to be a dirty game of politics agn... one candidate tryn to show his worth, the other tryn to show his own, and both of them tryn to show how wrong is other...at the end all of US at loss!!!
overall it was a nice day.....

Felomina again came up with some nice experiences. Some of expressions/thoughts here really tell how voters come to the conclusion for voting a particular candidate. Depiction of what voter goes through during the voting is simple but bringing up simplicity is not that simple. Good work both about voting as well as putting your thoughts on blog.
Well going through the article has reminded me of me casting a vote. Althought my experience was not with the Lok-sabha/Vidhan shabha elections but it was for choosing a student candidate which represents the student body of area into the vidhan shabha (something similar to that).
This whole story began with the first event to getting the name registered for the electorial list. Some guys who were representing the some candidate came and told we would register you for the election, please cast the vote for candidate X from Y party. Me and my friend gave our name for the list. Again after two days some more guys came representing some X1 candidate of some Y1 party. We also listened to them. But we were sure that whom we both are going to vote(it was the one who registered us in voter's list). There were some more session of such election campaigning from some Xr of Yr till Xn of Yn.
Finally the day of voting came. As far as I remember it was saturday. I almost forgot that there was some election going on. When me and my friend went for lunch we found out that there is lot of activitis in some area. There we figured that today is election day. Some how we found the name in the eletion list. then found out in which booth we have to vote.
Near the both we came to know that voting timings are over. I was frusted. But soon security told who ever in the line till the gate can vote. I was near the gate and after hearing him I just pushed myself into to gate.:-) . The voting booth was a school. While in the line I realized that I dont have the voters ID. The election officer said dont worry you can show some other card. I should my pan card. My friend didnt have pan card that time. So he showed his credit card and election officer there allow him also to vote.( well election officer must have thought there these people dont look like frauds). Finally I got the ballot paper. I thought there would be some N candidates.. But came to know that.list is never ending.. I got N pages of ballot paper each having N! candidates. I never minded because I knew whom I am going to vote. Started searching for the X candidate of Y party. I spotted the name. I was going to mark on it but I spotted one more X candidate with Y symbol. I went through whole ballot sheet and found there were r sets of {X,Y}. I still dont remember the vote I casted was for the person who registerd me in that voting list.
In the end I was happy and was feeling proud of voting as none of my other friends did. I was "showing everyone my finger" ofcourse with the voting mark. :-)
Actually speaking ,I voted once when I was not...legaly eligible to vote..but later the anxiety ended...because more you learn and know ,more you hate these politicians.......but then we can only hate and blame them...when it comes to joining politics..or to do a simple thing like voting...we just run away..(in other words sleep at home peacefully)
One of the reasons for this apathy is ,no political leader looks to be good enough for the stock pile of corruption, collapsed financial structure, roads, safety and internal security and above all the ability to bond the various communities toghther.......why should i waste my time to vote for a person who is not good enough to be a peon at a private company,or who can't even speak in english properly..unless we have more murli deoras, jyotiraditya sindhiyas..or pilot(don't know his first name),naveen jindal sort of guys...
